How to Choose a Quant Bootcamp: A Practical Checklist

Compare quant preparation programs by curriculum, feedback, time commitment and evidence. Use a practical checklist before choosing a bootcamp.

How to Choose a Quant Bootcamp: A Practical Checklist

Choose a quant bootcamp by the work it helps you do and the feedback you receive. Before comparing programs, name your target role, identify the gaps in your preparation, and decide how many hours you can commit each week. A large video library is useful only if it leads to practice you can complete and evaluate.

Quant Blueprint offers a preparation program, so this is a buyer's checklist from a provider. Apply the same questions to us that you apply to other options.

Start with your target role

TargetSkills to look forAsk to see
Quant tradingProbability, expected value, arithmetic, decisions and communicationA worked problem, a follow-up that changes an assumption, and mock feedback
Quant researchStatistics, coding, experimental design and model validationA project review covering baselines, leakage and out-of-sample evaluation
Quant developmentAlgorithms, data structures, implementation and relevant systems workCode review, complexity analysis and testing examples

Take the free diagnostic to identify an initial practice gap. For research, also review a project using the project checklist. Eight questions cannot assess your entire candidacy; use the result to choose a starting topic.

Compare the type of support

OptionWhat you are choosingBest question to ask
Self-directed studyYour own schedule, resources and review processCan I diagnose mistakes and keep a consistent routine?
Self-paced course or question bankOrganized material and explanationsCan I inspect a sample lesson and solution before buying?
Coaching or bootcampA structured sequence with feedback and supportWho reviews my work, how often, and what does the feedback contain?
University degreeAcademic study, assessment and a credentialDo my target roles require the credential or training this degree supplies?

These options can complement each other. Choose the support that addresses your bottleneck. Use the bootcamp versus self-study comparison if you are deciding whether to pay for structure at all.

Ask for a sample of the teaching

Pick one probability problem. Attempt it independently, read the explanation, and then change a number or assumption. A useful solution should help you solve the variation.

Look for these five elements:

  1. Assumptions: what is independent, equally likely, or known?
  2. Setup: which random variable, sample space or recurrence is being used?
  3. Reasoning: why does the calculation follow from the model?
  4. Check: do the units, bounds and simple cases make sense?
  5. Follow-up: how does the approach change when new information arrives?

Our SIG practice guide and Optiver practice guide provide public worked examples you can inspect.

Evaluate the feedback, not just access to a mentor

“Improve your probability” gives you little to act on. “You used the original sample space after observing new information; list the remaining outcomes before calculating” identifies a fix.

Ask who conducts mocks, how they are scheduled, whether you receive written feedback, and what happens between sessions. Also ask which support is included in the offer you are considering. A group session, an individual mock and an asynchronous question channel serve different purposes.

For research support, ask how a reviewer evaluates data leakage, baselines, uncertainty and reproducibility. For developer preparation, ask whether the review addresses tests, edge cases, complexity and design tradeoffs as well as a working answer.

Read outcome claims carefully

When a provider quotes a placement rate or average compensation, request the cohort, dates, denominator and definition. Does the rate include everyone who enrolled, only completers, or respondents to a survey? Does an “offer” mean a quant role? Does compensation mean base salary, guaranteed first-year cash or an estimate including bonus?

Read individual student experiences alongside the program details. An outcome demonstrates what happened for that person; it does not establish the result for every student. For compensation context, compare employer-published base salaries with the relevant location and experience level.

Check the practical commitment before enrolling

Use this checklist when reviewing an offer:

  • The curriculum covers the role and next interview round you are preparing for.
  • You have seen a sample lesson, a full solution and an example of actionable feedback.
  • The schedule fits your work or research commitments.
  • You know who provides support and how to request it.
  • The total price, payment schedule, access period and cancellation or refund terms are in writing.
  • You understand which services are included and which require an additional purchase.
  • You can explain why this support addresses a gap your current study routine has not resolved.

Run a two-week study trial

Before choosing a program, try a focused routine: one diagnostic session, several independent problem attempts, two timed sets, and one review of recurring mistakes. Record what you could solve, how long it took and where you needed help.

At the end, choose your next step from evidence. If you are progressing and reviewing mistakes effectively, continue self-study. If you are stuck on explanations, prioritization or consistency, compare programs against that specific need. The four-week study plan gives you a schedule to adapt.
